GRAVITY AND THE GOLF SWING

GRAVITY AND THE GOLF SWING

I was at the county fair yesterday.  I was watching a ride that simply swung a large group of people from one side to the other.  The day before I had been pushing my grandson on the swings and mentioned to him at the top of the swing, just for a split second he was weightless.  The same held true for the ride I was watching.

This morning I was balancing a club in my hand with the grip end on my palm with the club head facing up.  If the club moved any direction I instantly felt its weight as it toppled over.  I then took the club by the handle and swung the club head to the back swing.  While at the top of the back swing I adjusted the club so that it felt weightless as it did when I was balancing it in my hand.  I then swung the toe of the club down at the ball by simply helping gravity accelerate.  It felt effortless.  I was able to drive the club head with amazing speed.  Since I was swinging the toe downward and not the club face the club head was able to slam closed through impact.  The ball rocketed off the face and dead straight most of the time and a few times with a slight draw.  My thought was to drive the toe of the club into the ground.  I was actually assisting Mother Nature and not fighting against her.

The key was getting the club weightless at the top which made the transition effortless as opposed to yanking or shoving as with traditional swing methods.  It was very easy to stay in balance.
